Accountability

The Board of Trustees seems to have forgotten who they work for. Board members currently operate under the impression that they work for the President. That is not correct. 

 

The elected Board members work for the students, faculty, staff and taxpayers of Michigan exclusively. The university President works for them, not the other way around. As a Board Member, I will not be a rubber stamp for any President. I will make my decisions based on my conversations with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the public and will assess what is the best direction for the university to fulfill its core mission. I will hold the administration and Board members (including myself) accountable for solving the problems facing the university and for doing so in a transparent and open fashion. I will not tolerate an era of decisions being made by “the men in the ivory tower” any longer.
